Weekend in College Hoops: Jan 4th-5th
As we take a breather from college football this weekend, we turn our attention to the court.
Like clockwork, once the calendar turns to the new year, college basketball really begins to heat up. With basically no college football going on (no disrespect to Buffalo and Liberty in the Bahamas Bowl) and the NFL playing its final week with only a handful of moderately meaningful games on the docket, we can really tune into college hoops.
It’s been a bit since we checked in on the court, but below you can see our updated CBB Elo ratings for both teams and conferences. At the end of this post is the schedule for the weekend, including projected lines and win probabilities for all of Saturday and Sunday’s games. If you were wondering, the model is performing quite well so far this season, holding a record of 2,100-543 (79.5%), and 82% over the past 10 days.

Conference Elo Ratings
The ACC has fallen dangerously close to dropping below the Mid-Major Mountain West in the conference standings. The ACC has just two teams (Duke and UNC) in our Elo top-30, and just Duke in the AP top-25 and Coaches poll. The SEC remains on top, with its incredible 185-23 non-conference record.
This Weekend’s Slate:
Some great high-profile games headline the weekend, including Louisville at Virginia, Florida at Kentucky and Michigan State at Ohio State, which are all projected to be within 2-points.
