Post-"Feast Week" College Basketball Rankings
Winners and losers of the unofficial tip-off of the college basketball season.
The two time defending national champion UConn Huskies had a rough go of it in Maui, dropping all three games. Thy only fell two spots in my rankings, however, thanks to one-score losses to quality opponents in Memphis and Colorado, and the other loss being to a good Dayton team. A few programs truly did feast over Thanksgiving. Nevada, now 6-1, has jumped 17 spots since the pre-season rankings thanks to wins over Oklahoma State and VCU in the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic. The Atlantic-10 conference as a whole had a great holiday, seeing LaSalle, Rhode Island, and St. Bonaventure rise a cumulative 62 spots. UConn’s woes trickled through the Big East, which has seen a cumulative 11-spot rankings drop across its teams since the pre-season rankings (helped only by DePaul’s 20-spot improvement). Here are the updated rankings, which include games through Sunday, 12/1/24:
Biggest Risers*
Radford (+50 spots)
Columbia (+45 spots)
South Dakota State (+35 spots)
North Florida (+33 spots)
Norfolk State (+31 spots)
Biggest Fallers*
Duquesne (-41 spots)
Louisiana (-40 spots)
Air Force (-39 spots)
Charleston Southern (-31 spots)
Old Dominion (-30 spots)
*Since the pre-season rankings
